Giving voice

to unheard

stories.

“In her interactions with clients and staff to conduct interviews and write stories, Amy showed compassion and the ability to make people feel comfortable and heard. She loves telling stories and giving people a voice and this comes across in her passionate writing.”

Accurate.

Getting the facts right is important to me. Stories vary in their complexity; some require a high level of detail to provide context to the main message and have a long list of stakeholders and voices which are calling out to be heard. Achieving accuracy for more complex stories demands more time and care — it may involve going to conferences, multiple interviews, industry research, historical research and learning new concepts. I revel in the challenge complex stories pose! See a sample here:

Diverse.

My writing reflects diversity because I love learning and meeting new people. I’m genuinely curious and keen to understand other people’s worlds, jobs, cultures, perspectives and experiences. I strive to truthfully represent the perspectives and knowledge of the person, group or organisation who is desiring to have their story heard. My writing is not about telling my story. Compassionate.

I love telling stories of transformation and triumph. To do this though, I am often trusted with the private details of a person’s struggles — this presents me with the delicate task of discerning which details should be shared and which shouldn’t. In the way I listen, question and tell stories, I strive to safe-guard the dignity of every person, to respect a person’s privacy, and to be sensitive to the vulnerable. See a sample story here:

Providing insight.

“A true team player, Amy provided valuable input, insight and ideas. She was open to feedback, and often sought it out to understand where she could improve, and used this to inform future work.”
